IAR 80
The IAR 80 was Romania's indigenous Second World War fighter: an all-metal, low-wing monoplane designed and built by Industria Aeronautică Română, first flown in 1939 and in service from 1941. Developed from IAR's licence work on the Polish PZL P.24 and powered by a licence-built Gnome-Rhône radial, it fought on the Eastern Front, defended the Ploiești oil refineries against American bombers, and was developed into the IAR 81 dive bomber. More than four hundred served, the type stayed in frontline use until the end of the war, and no complete original survives.
